Daytona Beach defeats Augusta

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Lawrence McCloud rushed for three touchdowns and threw for two more as the Daytona Beach Thunder defeated the Augusta Spartans 42-26 in a World Indoor Football League game before 2,683 at DBCC Public Broadcasting 15 at the Ocean Center Saturday night.

The Thunder (1-3) snapped a three-game losing streak in its first game back in the Ocean Center since the death of Javan Camon Feb. 26. Camon's number was retired at halftime. Barry Wagner, the arena football league great, had one catch for an 19-yard fourth quarter touchdown and a 31-yard missed field goal return.

Daytona Beach led 22-19 at halftime, and took control on Joe Giddens' third-quarter interception return. Augusta (2-2) closed to 28-26, but Daytona Beach pulled away with the McCloud-Wagner touchdown and the former Bethune-Cookman quarterback's 14-yard run. McCloud was named offensive MVP, Giddens defensive MVP, Aaron Sheppard on the line and kick returner Robert Bailey special teams.
