
Lions defeat the Ghostriders

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Columbus Lions defeated the Osceola Ghostriders 28-27 on Saturday night in a game to determine first place in the World Indoor Football League.
Lions LB Justin Rivers blocked a Ghostriders PAT attempt with 50 seconds remaining. Columbus (3-1) prevailed despite the performance of quarterback Joey Conrad, who finished 9 of 26 with 144 yards and one touchdown.
The offense was led by running back Eugene Goodman, who rushed 18 times for 79 yards and 3 touchdowns and was named the Offensive MVP. Despite being called for 15 penalties (nine more than Osceola), the Lions converted twice as many first downs (14 to 7) and had twice as many offensive yards (231 to 109). Osceola (2-2) kept it close behind play of Line MVP Harvey Joiner (4 tackles, 1 TFL and a fumble recovery) and Special Teams MVP Lamont Finnie (4 kickoff returns for 100 yards). However, the game was decided by the turnover battle. Ghostriders quarterback Brandon Sumner was intercepted four times - three of them by Defensive MVP Damian Daniels - including twice in the red zone.
Sumner connected with to Terrance Bunting to make it 28-27 before the extra point was blocked.
