The Dayton Gemstraveled to U. S. Cellular Coliseumin Bloomington toshut outthe Prairie Thunder 3:0.
The Gems scored in all 3 periods in a penalty-riddled evening of hockey. The firstpoint went to Sam Bloom with assists from Mike Vaskivuo and Jon Ornelas at 12:11. Halfway throughthe 2nd Phil Youngclaus found the net with the help of Dayton's captain, Greg Labenski. During the final period Dayton's newest Gem, Corey Couturier single handedly finished the scoring at 3:05. Both teams clashed and managed to accumulate 100 minutes of penalties together. Final score of 3:0 gives the Gems a tie for 4th in the league and standings of 9/8/3/0. The Gems head home tonight after 2 away wins on this road trip.
Next Saturday, December 5th at Brookville's Westbrook Elementary Santa will have a new helper this year. The annual Breakfast with Santa will find our mascot, Blade, enjoying breakfast and helping Santa pass out the gifts.
Canned goods will be collected and donated to the Brookville F.I.S.H. food pantry
That evening at 7:30pm as the Gems attempt toslay theFt Wayne Komets join us we saluteGemMoe Benoit. Moe's number will be retired. Fans of the original Gems are invited to join us and pay tribute to his career. That evening is also "Kill the Komets" night and fans 12 and under will receive complimentary official Gems pom poms to cheer the team on.
Sunday, December 6th at 5pm the Gems take on The Port Huron Ice Hawksand it'll be time for theTeddy Bear toss.When the Gems score their 1st goal it's time to toss your Teddy. Cutest Bear Contest - Top 5 cutest Teddy Bears will receive prizes so be sure and pin you name to your Bear. Bring along a Teddy and we'll donate him to a good girl or boy throughToys for Tots and The Ronald McDonald House.
