In the first period the defensemen for both teams held their own. By the end of the period the Icehawks had 8 shots and the Gems 6 but neither team found the net.
The Gems owned the second period less than a minute in Mike Vaskivuo put Dayton on the board with the help of John Snowden and Phil Youngclaus. 12 minutes later Chris Myhro scored assisted by Bryan Nathe and Danny LaPointe.
Port Huron put their first point up during a powerplay and less than 4 minutes later tied the game up with their second goal of the evening. A.J. MacLean moved the Gems back into the lead aided by John Snowden and Nathan Oke. With only 12 seconds left in the period John Snowden sewed the game up with a empty net goal assisted by A.J. MacLean. The Gems stopped Port Huron with a final score of 4 - 2.
The Gems hit the road on Saturday to take on the Flint Generals listen live at the Gems website. www.daytongems.net. Gems next home game at Hara Sunday, January 10th at 5pm as the Gems battle the Fort Wayne Komets.
