PALATINE, IL-- The Windy City Dawgs of the International Basketball League (IBL) will play its first ever game this weekend. The Dawgs' inaugural game will take place in Waterloo, IA as the team goes to battle against the Waterloo Kings at the University of Northern Iowa. Game time is 7:20 p.m.
The Dawgs are led by head coach John Bagley. Bagley, who played 11 seasons in the NBA with Cleveland, New Jersey, Boston and Atlanta, was hired last month as the first coach in team history. Bagley has coached the Harper College men's basketball team for the past three seasons. In 2004-05, he guided the Harper hawks to a 17-9 mark.
"Opening night is always exciting at any level of basketball," said Head Coach John Bagley. "This is extra special since it's the first game the franchise will ever play. We've got a good group of players together and I expect big things from these guys."
Please find a full Dawgs roster on the following pages.
The Dawgs will play a 22-game schedule (11 home, 11 away) during the inaugural 2005 campaign. Windy City's home opener will take place on Friday, April 22 against Battle Creek at 7:30 p.m. The Dawgs will play its home games at Harper College in Palatine. Please see schedule on following page for game dates and times.
With two new rules, the IBL game eliminates dead time with an immediate inbound rule and one timeout per quarter. The result is a faster, more athletic game that is entertaining for spectators. While playing four 12-minute quarters (same as NBA), the typical time of game will only be about two hours.
The Dawgs are running a "Kid's Season Tickets Free" ticket offer. Any fans purchasing season tickets (just $90) can receive up to two kid's season tickets free ($100 value). For season tickets, call the Dawgs office at 847-359-DUNK.
