Elgin Racers News Release
Elgin, IL- The Elgin Racers have announced that Sherick Simpson is returning to the team for the 2008 season. Simpson, a 6'6" forward, is a three time IBL All-Star and was the league's ninth leading scorer last year averaging 25.2 points per game.
Simpson played his college ball at Fort Hays State in Kansas, and was instrumental in leading that team to 49 consecutive victories and the 1996 National Championship. Fort Hays State is the last undefeated D2 national champion and that win streak is the fourth longest in NCAA history. Simpson was named the MVP of that 1996 national tournament and his team compiled a 63-2 record over the course of two years
Elgin Racers President/Head Coach, Michael Murphy - "The Racers organization is thrilled that Sherick will be competing for us again this year. His experience and clutch play when the game is on the line are invaluable. He has been a winner his entire career and will be a key contributor as we defend our Midwest Division title and chase the overall IBL championship."
The Racers kick off their 2008 season on Friday, April 4 with a road trip to Indiana to take on the Gary Steelheads. The Racers' home opener is versus the Holland Blast on Saturday, May 10. For more information, contact the Racers at (847) 337-9529 or visit www.elginracers.com.
