Dawgs Outlasted by Mayhem in 4-2 Loss

MACON, GA. - The Rail Yard Dawgs ran out of gas on Saturday night, as Macon outscored Roanoke 3-1 in the third period to beat the Dawgs 4-2.
Jeff Jones and Nick Ford scored for Roanoke, while Chris Hunt, Cody Rodgers, and a pair of scores by Tyler Becker led the Mayhem.
The first period ended scoreless, with Roanoke earning the best scoring chances of the period. After a Bryce Martin delay of game penalty put the Dawgs on the penalty kill, Matt O'Dea and Brady Heppner both had shorthanded chances that they couldn't quite tuck into the net.
Roanoke opened the scoring in the second period, as Jones smashed home a centering feed by Mac Jansen to give the Dawgs the lead at the 6:57 mark. Roughly five minutes later at 11:49, the former Dawg, Hunt, rattled home a rebound goal to knot the game at 1-1. That score held entering the final period of regulation.
The third period began with a quick score by the Mayhem, as Rodgers slapped a shot into the Roanoke net from the point less than two minutes into the action. Ford tied things up with a power play goal assisted by O'Dea and Jones with 14:55 remaining. Then, two consecutive goals by Becker within 19 seconds of each other saw the Mayhem break the game wide open with 8:59 remaining. The Mayhem held on for their third win of the year in their 18th game.
Austyn Roudebush was credited with 19 saves on 23 shots that he faced for Roanoke, while Macon's Michael Stiliadis stopped 19 of 21 shots he faced for the Mayhem.
The Dawgs will be back home next weekend for a two game series against the Evansville Thunderbolts. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m EST at Berglund Center.
