Dawgs Look to Build

February 25, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Central Valley Dawgs News Release

San Joaquin Valley, CA. In a statement released today by Dominick Young, owner and player for the ABA Central Dawgs professional basketball team, "This has been a difficult season for us in many ways as we started very late and did not have the time needed to maximize the potential that the league has to offer. We won only three games this season defeating the Fresno Heatwave, Bellevue Blackhawks and Orange County Crush. We were competitive in many games. We have the nucleus of good talent and feel that Chris Jeffries, Shannon Swillis and Randy Holcomb are all NBA bound and provided excitement, leadership and opportunity for the Dawgs. Derek Foster, Shamel Stallworth and Fabian Pinnock will have opportunities to play in other US leagues and abroad with their wide range of skills. My brothers Dexter (10 games, 25.4 points, 6 assists and 2 steals) and Dene (1 game, 14 points, 6 assists, 2 steals and 6 rebounds) will be back for next season in this very "family" team."

Young added, "However, not having a set venue and a good schedule hurt us. We are deeply appreciative of the support we've received from the fans in Central Valley and will pledge to do much better and compete for an ABA Championship. We'll be working all spring, summer and fall to show that we do belong in the ABA and that Central Valley is the right place for a team."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
