
Dawgs beat Blue Sox 10-4

UTICA: The Utica Blue Sox could not grab another victory against Dawgs tonight, as Mohawk Valley scored ten runs and beat Utica 10-4.
The Blue Sox drop to 12-13 after the loss while the Diamond Dawgs improve to 15-9.
The Diamond Dawgs took a 1-0 lead in the top third when Stephan Furman hit a single, advanced to second off of JD Davis's single, and scored off of another single from the Diamond Dawgs' shortstop Joseph Castellanos.
Mohawk Valley scored three more runs in the top fourth. Diamond Dawgs' centerfielder Austin Pollack singled and advanced to third off of a wild pitch. Mark McKenna walked, and Pollack later scored off of Joel Alvarez's single to give the Diamond Dawgs a 2-0 lead. Furman walked to load the bases, and then Castellanos singled to bring McKenna and Alvarez home and make the score 4-0 Diamond Dawgs.
Mohawk Valley scored three more runs in the top fifth. Ryan Hernandez moved up to first off of an error from the Blue Sox's third baseman Jerry Reinhart. Ryan Toohers hit a double, which brought Hernandez home and gave the Diamond Dawgs a 5-0 lead. Pollack also hit a double to bring Toohers home and Pollack scored off of Furman's sacrifice fly. The score was now 7-0 Mohawk Valley.
The Diamond Dawgs continued to increase their lead in the top sixth. Alexis Monge-Rodriguez walked and advanced to second off of Castellanos' single. Hernandez hit a single to bring Monge-Rodriguez home (MV 8-0). Toohers walked to load the bases and Castellano scored off of Pollack's walk. Mohawk Valley led 9-0 heading out of the top sixth.
The Blue Sox did put some runs on the board in the bottom sixth. Isaiah Torres led the inning off with a single and moved up to second off of Colton Bender's walk. After that, Blue Sox's shortstop Patrick Bordewick singled to bring Torres home and give Utica their first run of the game. Blue Sox's pinch hitter Luis DeLeon singled to load the bases and then DJ Staszak recorded the sacrifice groundout to bring Bender home and decrease Mohawk Valley's lead by seven 9-2.
The Diamond Dawgs put up one more run in the top seventh. Pinch hitter Drew Fureno moved all the way to second off of an error from Hussien and moved up to third off of a wild pitch. Castellanos later singled to bring Fureno home and give Mohawk Valley a 10-2 lead.
Utica scored one more run in the bottom seventh when Khalyd Cox singled and reached home plate off of Torres' single.
They also put up another run in the bottom eighth when DeLeon singled, advanced to second off of a wild pitch, and scored off of Cameron Phelts' single.
Utica trailed 10-4 heading out of the eighth, but they could not pull off another rally in the bottom ninth to beat the Diamond Dawgs.
Utica's starting pitcher Joey Preciado got the loss striking out one, walking two, giving up seven hits, and giving up four runs in his four innings of play.
The Diamond Dawgs' starting pitcher Erislandy Rives got the win striking out one, walking three, and giving up two hits in his five innings of play.
The Blue Sox will return home Friday to take on the Adirondack Trail Blazer. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 6:35 p.m.
