
Davilla to stay with Spirit as coach

LYNN, Mass. - The North Shore Spirit have named former All-Star first baseman Vic Davilla a coach and hitting instructor for the 2006 season.
Davilla, who announced his retirement from professional baseball at the end of the 2005 season, went out with a bang as he was chosen as the CanAm League's All-Star first baseman. He finished fifth in the league with a .333 average and second with 23 home runs, 86 RBI and a .577 slugging percentage.
Davilla played in 1,393 minor-league games in 13 seasons and compiled a .301 career batting average with 133 home runs and 677 RBI.
Davilla is happy to stay with the Spirit and looks forward to coaching. "I have a lot to offer in the coaching aspect and am excited to receive this great opportunity," he said. The Spirit is a great organization and I cannot think of a better team to be a part of. And I know the outcome of next season will end on a better note, like winning the CanAm League Championship."
In their third season, the Spirit drew more than 110,000 fans to Fraser Field, giving them a total attendance of more than 315,000 since they arrived in 2003. The organization is looking forward to the 2006 season.
