Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX â Lubbock Cotton Kings General Manager Fred Meseke announced today the re-signing of Chris Dashney as head coach and director of hockey operations through the 2006-07 season.
"Chris has done a superb job," said Meseke. "His thoroughness in the recruiting process has given this club a turnaround on the ice that is well above what I expected in his first year as a head coach. He has shown poise, maturity and professionalism while taking a team from last place in the conference last season and turning them into a playoff contender."
Dashney's Cotton Kings squad was first in the Southern Conference on December 19, earning both he and his hockey operations staff representation to the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game in Laredo, TX. The Kings sit third overall in the conference and the Southwest Division with a 28-20-2 record with 58 points behind Amarillo (61) and San Angelo (59). Last season, the Kings posted a 19-35-10 record with 48 points in 64 games.
"Chris has shown a lot of integrity this season," said Meseke. "He recruited players with similar character traits and work ethic and that has parlayed to our current record."
Dashney sees the big picture, but also knows that both he and his club must focus on the present.
"I am very pleased with the extension," said Dashney. "I am looking forward to being a part of the future of Cotton Kings hockey and the success of the organization. That being said, we have a huge weekend and focus must remain on the task at hand."
The Kings have three games this weekend. Lubbock hosts the Amarillo Gorillas on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 1,000 fans in attendance with a ticket will receive a Paul Fioroni bobble head courtesy of Plumbing Services Inc and the Lubbock Cotton Kings â doors open at 6 p.m. The Kings will be on the road Saturday night in Amarillo before returning for a 5:05 p.m. start on Sunday night against the New Mexico Scorpions.
