Bucks Beat Oilers 7-3 With Big Third Period

TULSA, Oklahoma – The defending CHL Champion Laredo Bucks were led by a James Hiebert hat trick as they beat the Tulsa Oilers 7-3 in Tulsa on Friday night. The Bucks scored four third period goals to grab their fifth straight win which allowed them to stay tied atop the Southeast Division with Austin, with the Bucks still having a game in hand. Laredo is 28-22-2 with 58 points. The Bucks are on the road in the midst of a season high five game road trip. The Bucks are in Topeka on Saturday. Laredo returns home on March 12th against Austin. The Oilers struck first as the Bucks failed to clear the zone. Forward Todd Marcellus teed up a shot from the top of the left circle that made it 1-0 Tulsa at 5:09. The Bucks came back on a power play chance. Defenseman Serge Dube fired a wrist shot from the top of the left circle that was redirected by forward James Hiebert for his 13th goal of the season at 13:13 to tie the game at one goal. Later in the period the Bucks went back on the power play. This time defenseman Paul Elliott ripped a slap shot low stick side at 18:51 for a 2-1 Bucks lead. It was the fourth of the year for Elliott.

In the second period the Bucks quickly extended their lead. Forward Jeff Bes found Hiebert wide open in front and he tucked the puck into the net with a wrist shot for his second of the game at 1:38 to make it 3-1 Laredo. The Oilers came right back as forward Jeremy Kyte chipped in a rebound at 3:48 for a power play tally to cut the Bucks lead to 3-2. Then later in the period forward Lukas Dora led a two-on-one down the left wing and setup forward Jaroslav Cesky for a one timer to tie the game at 3-3 at 12:42.

In the third period the Bucks came out and took the Oilers apart. Hiebert capped the hat trick with a backhander for a power play goal at 4:33. Then forward Lou Dickenson stuffed in a rebound for his fourth goal of the year at 6:03 to make it 5-3 Laredo. Forward Petr Taticek made it 6-3 with his first goal with the Bucks at 12:04 and defenseman Oriel McHugh capped the scoring with a blast for his sixth of the year at 13:44. FINAL SCORE Laredo 7, Tulsa 3.

David Guerrera stopped 28 of 31 shots to improve to 13-12-1. Bill Ruggiero allowed seven goals on 39 shots to fall to 26-15-2. The Bucks were 3-4 on the power play while Tulsa went 1-5.
