Dash Opens 2011 Campaign

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (APRIL 8, 2011) - The Winston-Salem Dash begins its 67th season of Carolina League baseball tonight against the Kinston Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Grainger Stadium in Kinston.

New Dash Manager Julio Vinas sends out right hander Terry Doyle to the mound to start opening day. Doyle spent the majority of last season in Winston-Salem, making 20 starts for the Dash. In 121.1 innings, he went 8-8 with a 3.71 ERA. Doyle began 2010 with Kannapolis, where he registered an 0.96 ERA in seven starts.

Doyle faces southpaw Drew Pomeranz, the fourth overall pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft. Pomeranz was drafted out of the University of Mississippi where he was named 2010 SEC Pitcher of the Year. He posted a conference-best 2.24 ERA and 139 strikeouts in his junior season at Ole Miss.

The Dash opens up with three games at Southern Division rival Kinston before heading north to Woodbridge, VA to face the Potomac Nationals for three more games. The home opener at BB&T Ballpark is Friday, April 15 against Kinston at 7 p.m. For tickets, call the Winston-Salem Dash Box Office at (336) 714-BATS (2287).

"The Voice of the Dash" Alex Vispoli will bring you The Dash Pregame show beginning 15 minutes before each game this season.
