Winston-Salem Dash News Release

WILMINGTON, DE (JUNE 16, 2011) - Thursday night's series opener against the Wilmington Blue Rocks was suspended because of a heavy rainstorm that pummeled northern Delaware and the surrounding area. Wilmington led Winston-Salem 9-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning when play was stopped. The game will resume on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and will be followed by a seven-inning contest immediately after.

After a 22-minute rain delay to start the evening, Winston-Salem went scoreless in the top of the first. The Blue Rocks jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the inning against Joe Serafin. After Wilmington's first two batters collected base hits, Nick Francis and John Whittleman hit matching RBI doubles to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

Serafin's troubles continued in the second when Joey Lewis hit a solo home run to give the Blue Rocks a 3-0 lead. They added one more later in the inning when Whit Merrifield reached on an error and scored on Alex McClure's double.

Wilmington kept hammering away in the third. Rey Navarro hit a home run on the first pitch of the inning, Lewis had an RBI single, and Deivy Batista smashed a three-run homer to put the Rocks ahead 9-0.

After Wilmington starter Noel Arguelles tossed a fourth-straight scoreless frame, J.R. Ballinger came in to pitch the bottom of the fourth for Winston-Salem as heavy rain arrived in the area. He sandwiched two fly ball outs around a Francis single before the umpiring crew determined the teams could no longer proceed under the wet conditions. After a 35-minute delay, the game was officially suspended until Friday night.

The broadcast of Friday's games will begin at 4:55 p.m. on www.wsdash.com .

The Dash return to BB&T Ballpark for their first home stand of the season's second half on Sunday, June 26 to start a series against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Fans may purchase tickets for every game this season by calling the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or by visiting www.wsdash.com .
