Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - Tuesday evening's game between the Worcester Bravehearts and Brockton Rox at Fitton Field was suspended in the bottom of the fourth inning due to darkness, with the 'Hearts leading 7-2.
Fitton Field lost power due to an outage that affected part of the City of Worcester, including the campus of the College of the Holy Cross.
Due to Futures League rules requiring at least five full innings to be played for a game to be considered complete, the remainder of the game has been postponed. It is tentatively scheduled to be concluded on Wednesday, June 28, after the completion of a previously scheduled Brockton-Worcester game.
Worcester bats propelled the 'Hearts to an early advantage Tuesday.
After Brockton scored a run in the top of the first, the Bravehearts responded with three runs in the bottom of the frame.
A two-run home run by Kobe Stenson (Siena) put Worcester up 2-1, also scoring Tyler Bastunas (Drury). Marc Willi (Michigan) would then cross the plate thanks to an RBI single by Michael Florides (Hofstra).
The 'Hearts added two more runs in the bottom of the second. Bastunas scored on a Willi RBI single, while Stenson came home on a Brockton error.
Another pair of Worcester runs scored in the third. Stenson came through again with a single that brought in Micah Dean (Kansas State), after which Willi drove in Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) on a sacrifice fly.
The Rox got a run back in the top of the fourth when Jake Fitzgibbons (UMass Lowell) doubled home Owen Davis.
Bravehearts starter Max LeBlanc (UMass Amherst) gave up two earned runs in four innings of work, striking out six. In two innings, Brockton starter Bennett Durkin (Rollins) allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and a walk, striking out five.
Worcester will be on the road Wednesday evening against the Norwich Sea Unicorns, with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
