St. Catharines, ON. (Reprint from LocalSportsReport.com.Staff). The ABA Niagara DareDevils basketball team lost their inaugural opener to the Maryland Nighthawks 113-106 in overtime. Local basketball fans were treated to an exciting game that saw Niagara battle back from a 13 piont deficit at halftime. With 1:04 left in the 4th quarter, the DareDevils had fought back to trail the Nighthawks 95-94. The DareDevils were up by one with a minute left to play before the Nighthawks hit a field goal to regain the one point lead. However, with 15 seconds left to play, Maryland was called for goaltending and Niagara took the lead 99-97.
The DareDevils comeback was spoiled when Maryland hit a jumper with only 1.6 seconds on the clock to send the game into a three minute overtime period. The overtime period saw the Nighthawks outscore the DareDevils 14-6 to get the victory. 6'8" Reggie Warren lead the Niagara DareDevils with 28 points. Davin White and Leroy Hickerson had 21 each while Eddie Shelby had 16. Former Brock Badger Morgan Fairweather hit a 3 pointer on his only shot attempt of the night.
The next game for the DareDevils will be Saturday, November 12th against the Strong Island Sound. All tickets are $10 and are available at the arena box office before the game. Game time at the Jack Gatecliff Arena on Saturday is 730pm.
While the basketball was excellent, fans were also entertained through a variety of events and contests. DareDevils dancers performed during timeouts while WILD 101.1 DJs mixed the latest music. Contests included musical chairs, name that tune, a half-time dance contest and a variety of on court shoting games.
