Nebraska Danger News Release
GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA - The Nebraska Danger Indoor Professional Football Team has begun its recruiting for the 2014 season. Danger Head Coach Mike Davis is pleased to announce that eight players - including first-team all-IFL selections Kayne Farquaharson and Darius Savage - will return to the Danger for the 2014 season.
"This is a great group of players that we have signed to build our team around for 2014," Davis said. "We are excited about this group and we'll continue to go out and work to get players that will help us build a championship team."
Farquharson, the franchise's all-time leader in touchdowns, receptions and yards, will enter his third season with Nebraska this winter. The University of Miami product was a 1st team all-league selection last year after finishing with 73 receptions, 1,083 yards and 21 touchdowns. He led the IFL in receiving yards and was second in the league in touchdown receptions.
Farquharson joins offensive linemen Darius Savage (UCLA) and D'Angelo McCray (Memphis) as key returnees for the Danger offensive unit that led the league in scoring and yards per game a season ago. Savage was also a 1st team all-IFL selection.
Four defensive players also return for Coach Davis, spearheaded by third year player Pig Brown. The defensive back from Missouri led the Danger with 67 tackles in 2013 including 37 solo stops. He also had three sacks and two interceptions for a Nebraska defense that was third in the IFL with 25 takeaways last season.
Brown is joined by defensive lineman Adrian Davis (Arkansas), and defensive backs Darnell Terrell (Missouri) and Jamar Love (Arkansas). Davis had 59 tackles in 2013 for the Danger with 2.5 sacks, while Terrell had 43 tackles while playing in 11 games. Love, who joined the team late last season, had 21 tackles and an interception in four games.
"We have some spots to fill on our defense," Davis said, "but I like what these four guys bring to the table. They understand what we are trying to do defensively and will be able to bring along the new players we bring in to camp with us."
In addition, Davis announced that kicker Joe Houston will return as well. Houston, who was 18-for-24 kicking field goals last season and 70-for-85 on PATs while earning honorable mention all-IFL accolades.
The Danger, named the 2013 IFL franchise-of-the-year following their 2013 run to the United Bowl, will begin the 2014 season in February with a schedule to be announced later this fall.
