GRAND ISLAND, NE - IFL newcomer, the Iowa Barnstormers, were humbled by the Nebraska Danger in their first game in Grand Island as the Danger got the win 76-50.
Hindered by big plays and turnovers, the Nebraska Danger had a rough beginning to the game with the Barnstormers falling behind 14-0 in the first two minutes of the game. Quarterback Robb Nallenweg of the Barnstormers opened the game with a pass for 36 yards and finished the first quarter with 142 yards and one touchdown. Danger running back Waymon James was a bright spot scoring two touchdowns and ending the 1st quarter averaging 7.7 yards per carry.
"James really kept us in the ball game in the first quarter," said Danger Head Coach Mike Davis. "Every bounce seemed to go their way at the start of the game."
The 2nd quarter was a whole different ball game for the Danger, who outscored the Barnstormers 35-3, (two points shy of their single quarter scoring record) to take a lead 49-29 into halftime. The Danger rally was helped along by a fumble recovery and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Pig Brown.
"Once we finally got momentum back on our side, we really tried to pour it on," Davis said.
The Danger built on their lead in the 2nd half, scoring four times. A Sewell pass to Jasonus Tillery with two minutes left in the 3rd quarter extended the lead to 27 points, 63-36. Sewell connected with Tillery once again early in the 4th for yet another touchdown. Tillery finished the night with three catches for 33 yards and two touchdowns.
After the Barnstormers scored back to back touchdowns cutting the lead to 20 points in the fourth quarter, 70-50, back-up quarterback Bryan Parnes saw some action for the Danger. Jameel Sewell finished the night with nine completions for 134 yards and four touchdowns, as well as having two rushing touchdowns. The Nebraska Danger cruised to the end of the game on the back of Waymon James who ran for 61 yards and scored three touchdowns. The Danger play the Tri-Cities Fever in Kennewick, Washington on April 3rd.
