Danger Has Record-Setting Night against Wyoming

GRAND ISLAND, NE - There are good starts, great starts and then there is the first half the Nebraska Danger had on Friday night.
Nebraska scored on offense, defense and special teams - all before halftime - at the Heartland Events Center against the Wyoming Cavalry as they jumped to a 50-14 halftime lead en route to a dominating 73-20 win in front of nearly 4,500 fans.
"We couldn't ask for a much better effort from our guys in the first half," Nebraska head coach Mike Davis said. "We played about as well you could play. It was good to see us come out focused and ready to play."
In the win, the Danger set franchise records for points in a quarter (37), fewest yards allowed in a game (98) and largest margin of victory (53).
It was the defense that set the tone. They stopped the Cavalry on their first four possessions and opened the scoring when Claude Wroten sacked Wyoming quarterback Sam Durley in the end zone, forcing a fumble that was recovered by Jervonte Jackson for a touchdown.
Later in the first quarter, running back Ranier Rackley gave the Danger a 13-0 lead on a 3-yard run and then offensive and special teams fireworks ensued.
Nebraska scored 28 points on just three offensive plays to open the second quarter as they got a 17-yard run from quarterback Jameel Sewell, a 34-yard Jacob Payne kickoff return and a pair of 45-yard passes from Sewell. The first to Andre Piper-Jordan gave the Danger a 34-14 lead and then a Sewell hit Kayne Farquharson for a 41-14 advantage.
Then, the defense was at it again as Jackson tackled Durley in the end zone for a safety before Rackley ended the half with a 5-yard run.
"This was a great way for us to get ready for the stretch run tonight," Davis said. "With three road games coming up, we need to keep our focus up and see if we can pull out some road wins. They never come easy in this league."
Things didn't get much better for Wyoming (1-7) in the second half. The Danger defense pitched a shutout in the third quarter and kept scoring, too. Pig Brown tackled Durley in the end zone for a 52-14 lead and Adrian Davis scooped a pass from mid-air and went 42 yards for a touchdown.
Nebraska's defense - which leads the league in points allowed and sacks - continued their offensive-wrecking ways. They scored 16 points, had four sacks and 10 tackles for loss for 53 yards. Brown recorded eight tackles, including 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss, and Wroten added a sack and three tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Sewell was 8-for-15 for 137 yards and a pair of touchdowns and he ran six times for 22 yards and another two scores, but it seemed the Danger offense was rarely on the field. Wyoming ran 57 plays to Nebraska's 35 for the game.
The Danger (6-2) begin a three-game road trip next week as they travel to Washington to play Tri-Cities. They'll play Wyoming on May 9th and travel to Green Bay for a game with the Blizzard on May 17th.
