Danbury Tops Brooklyn 3-2

BROOKLYN, New York - The Brooklyn Aviators dropped a 3-2 decision on Saturday night to the Danbury Whalers in Federal Hockey League action at the Aviator Sports and Events Center.

Greg Holt paced the Whalers offense with a goal and two assists, and Nick Niedert stopped 30 shots in the victory for Danbury.

Danbury opened the scoring in the first period on a power play marker from Devin Guy with 1:53 left to go in the opening frame. Guy one timed a beautiful pass from Holt over the glove of Brooklyn netminder Pete Dundovich for his fourth marker of the season.

Trailing 1-0 early in the second period, Brooklyn quickly tied the game on Anthony Iaquinto's third marker of the year just :19 in. Iaquinto broke in short side and wristed the puck under the blocker of Niedert to get the Aviators on the board. Shortly after, and on the power play, Andrew Owsiak gave Brooklyn the lead, 2-1, at the 1:32 mark on his first goal of the season. The Dartmouth College product put home a loose puck after the initial shot from KC Timmons was blocked in front.

Danbury tied the game, 2-2, 6:41 into third period, after Holt's backhand got over the blocker of Dundovich. Steve Mallaro then put the Whalers ahead, 3-2, with a late power play goal with 4:22 left in the contest.

Dundovich is charged with his first loss of the season stopping 22 shots, while Niedert picks the win making 30 saves.

The Brooklyn Aviators return back to action on Wednesday night when they travel to Danbury to take on the Whalers at the Danbury Ice Arena.
