Aviators Snap Losing Streak

HYANNIS, Mass - The Brooklyn Aviators snapped a two-game winless skid with a 6-2 victory over the Cape Cod Bluefins on Friday night at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center in Hyannis, Mass.

Chris Ferazzoli and Jordan Bernier both had two goals for Brooklyn, and Pete Dundovich made a season high 50 saves in the win.

Brooklyn (3-1-3) opened the scoring in the first period on Ferazzoli's power play goal, his fifth of the season, at the 11:06 mark. After the initial shot from KC Timmons was blocked in front, Ferazzoli found the loose puck in the right circle and lifted it over Bluefins netminder Wes Vesprini to give the A's the 1-0 lead.

Vladimir Nikiforov would double the Aviators lead, 2-0, on his short-handed tally that came with 1:27 left in the first. Nikiforov came in on a 2-on-1 with Jesse Felten and snapped the puck under the blocker of Vesprini for his sixth marker of the year.

The Aviators found the back of the net halfway through the second period to take a 3-0 lead over Cape Cod. Bernier followed up his own shot and was all alone in the slot with the puck. He wristed it under the glove of Vesprini for his fifth marker of the season with 11:17 left in the middle frame.

Corey Bellamy went to the box for a boarding major at the 11:46 spot of the second that sent Brooklyn on a five-minute power play. On the man advantage, Bernier and Chris Jones both popped in goals to send the Aviators to a 5-0 advantage, which also chased Vesprini from the game.

Cape Cod (2-3-0) got on the board with 1:57 left in the second on Dan Gordon's third goal of the season to make it 5-1 in favor of the A's.

Brooklyn added one goal in the third from Ferazzoli on the power play to ice it for the Aviators, 6-1.

For Dundovich, that is his first win of the season while Vesprini is charged with the loss for Cape Cod.

The Brooklyn Aviators take on the Danbury Whalers Saturday night at the Aviator Sports and Events Center to close out the weekend. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 pm and can be watched live on the FHL broadcast network, powered by LiveSportsVideo. OUTLAWS SCORE EARLY, DROP WHALERS 5-2

WAYNE, NJ - Four first period goals by the New Jersey Outlaws keyed their 5-2 victory over the Danbury Whalers tonight in Federal Hockey League action. The teams matched up for the fourth time in the young season, the third time at the Capital One Ice Vault before 752 as the Outlaws continue to build their fan base.

The first period tonight was a near-polar opposite of the first when these two teams met last Saturday. The Whalers got the first power play after Matt Moffat drew a penalty on a near-breakaway, but New Jersey's Kevin Cooper got in solo on Peter Vetri and tallied shorthanded. William McCreary followed Matt Miller's goal with the third goal of the night. Matthew Puntureri made it 4-0 before the first period ended. Cooper made it 5-0 on Nick Neidert. The Whalers closed the gap on 2 Devin Guy goals in the third. Matt Moffat and Matt Caranci found Guy for the first and the trio hooked up with eight seconds left, giving the Whalers their first power play goal of the night. Dan McWhinney got the win for New Jersey with 23 saves on 25 shots. Things did get physical, as Lucas Schott challenged Puntureri in the first, and Whalers defenseman Chris Clark fought Tyler Barr in the second.

Coach Phil Esposito will look for a bounce-back effort tomorrow night as the Whalers face Brooklyn at the Aviator Arena at 7:35 PM. This will be the first time the two teams meet there since the climatic finish to the South Division, as the Aviators won in overtime. The Whalers and Aviators will face off at the Danbury Ice Arena Wednesday, the 16th, with a 7:35 face-off. Get your tickets by visiting thedanburywhalers.com or by calling 973-713-7547.
