Mystic Schooners News Release

DANBURY - The Schooners continued to stay hot with the playoffs right around the corner defeating the Danbury Westerners 7-1 at Rogers Park.

Martin Figueroa, who just won the player of the week, started things off with a bang in the first. He blasted a two-run homer across the street over the right field fence to give the Schooners a lead that they would never give up.

The third run of the game came in the very next inning. After Aaron Hill doubled to lead off the second and advanced to third, Kyle Hartenstein recorded his first RBI as a Schooner with a sac fly.

With the score 3-0 heading to the third, Mystic picked up another run with two outs. This time it came off the bat of Chase Lunceford who sent his sixth home run over the fence to make it a 4-0 game at the end of three.

The Westerners first and only run of the game came in the sixth inning when Kyle Hart doubled in a runner to make the score 4-1.

Mystic scored a pair in the eighth, they loaded the bases and Scotty Bradley walked for an RBI and Alex LeFevre hit a sac fly to make the score 6-1 going to the ninth.

One more came across in the ninth thanks to an RBI double from Rich Slenker to give the game its final score of 7-1.

Once again the pitching was spectacular. Joe Rivera got the start and the win, he went five and a third, gave up just one earned on five hits and struck out five. Kyle Dube threw until the eighth, he did not give up a hit and struck out four. And Ryan Thomas threw the final two innings striking out two.

With the win the Schooners improve to 28-15 on the season. They will play one more regular season game at the Winnipesaukee Muskrats on Tuesday in their last game before the playoffs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05.
