New York Bluefins News Release
The Cape Cod Bluefins came into Wednesday night's contest against the Danbury Whalers - their arch rival - having just polished off one of the FHL's toughest teams in the Brooklyn Avatiators in a 3-0 win in which goalie, Chris Testa recorded his first career shutout. However, the Fins were without 4 of their regular players and it showed as they came out flat and lackluster. Fortunately, so did the Whalers. The 2 teams struggled to generate any significant offense until the Whalers scored on a scramble in front of Testa. The goal was Whalers leading scorer Alec Kirschner's 15th of the season with assists going to Todd Chinova and Nick Deschenes.
The second period was much more lively and saw the Bluefins pepper Danbury goalie Nick Niedert with 16 more shots but he turned them all away. With about 8 minutes left, Matt Moffat took a Deschenes pass and ripped it past Testa for the lone goal of the period giving the Whalers a 2-0 lead at the 2nd intermission. The total shots after two period were 33-30
The third period began as the second ended with Cape Cod controlling the play and registering a strong shot advantage. The Fins pressured the Danbury zone the majority of the period until at the 6:29 mark, Kevin McCready picked up a loose puck and fired low wrist shot past Niedert to bring the Fins within 1. It was McCready's 9th goal of the season. The Fins battled hard and with 1:15 left, pulled Testa to have the 6 on 5 man advantage. However, Kirschner stole a Bluefins pass and fired a shot into the empty net to solidify the win for Danbury. The total shots on net for the game were 46 to 38.
The Bluefins host the FHL's Delaware Fedreals on Friday 12/16. Prior to puck drop, The Fins will honor the Army National Guard as well as local area student/athletes and their achievments. Tickets are $10/adults and $5/students & Seniors. All Youth Hockey Players receive free admission if they wear their team jerseys.
