Chicago Steel News Release
We are pleased to announce that we have hired Dan Lehv as President of Chicago Steel. Dan will be joining the Steel on August 10th.
Larry Robbins, the Chicagoland native and new majority owner of the Chicago Steel expressed his excitement for Dan leading the Steel management team. "As we align around our shared values of passion and purpose on and off the ice, we are thrilled to have Dan's enthusiasm, experience and expertise to lead the Chicago Steel. Dan shares our commitment to showcase elite Junior hockey in a friendly and entertaining atmosphere while building strong ties to the Chicagoland and Kane County communities." Dan commented, "I am thrilled to join the Chicago Steel and to help lead a new chapter in the club's history. I want to thank Larry Robbins, John Egan and the entire Steel organization for the opportunity and for the hospitality that has been extended to my family and me during this transition. With the hiring of a terrific hockey staff and the announcement of the move to Fox Valley, I could not think of a better time to be joining the Steel. There is great excitement and passion surrounding the team, and we will work incredibly hard to create a product on and off the ice that our fans, and the community at large, can be proud of."
Lehv, the 2012-13 Dave Tyler USHL Executive of the Year comes to us after four successful years building the Dubuque Fighting Saints, a highly respected member club of the USHL, following an eleven-year career in minor-league baseball. During his tenure as President of Dubuque, Dan established corporate and sponsor relationships, deepened the club's ties to the local hockey and business communities, recruited and managed an efficient business and operations staff, established a promotional schedule that added family oriented entertainment while still promoting the core hockey product, and established Dubuque as a viable and sustainable long-term business franchise. Dan was highly attracted to the revitalized spirit of the Chicago Steel and the potential of our club, our market and our team of people.
In 2015, Lehv was instrumental in Dubuque hosting the highly successful 2015 USHL/NHL Top Prospects Game in Dubuque. Lehv created the vision for the premier two-day event and planned, sold and led the execution of a comprehensive league-wide marketing initiative to promote the event in all markets. The results included a near sell-out crowd, over 100 NHL Scouts in attendance, a sold-out banquet featuring Eddie Olczyk, a primetime show on NHL Network, unprecedented media coverage and a standard for USHL special events moving forward.
"This opportunity also provides me the chance to stay in the USHL, a league that I'm passionate about, and the chance to build a team in its largest market," said Dan.
While in Dubuque, Lehv played a large part in the community. He was awarded a distinguished Dubuque Rising Star Award in 2013 for his leadership in business and in the Dubuque community. He served as a director of the Northern Lights Hockey Foundation (501c3), which was created in 2013 under Lehv's direction to help benefit area non-profits.
Dan stated, "I'm incredibly proud of what my colleagues and I accomplished during my time in Dubuque, and I'm grateful to the Fighting Saints' ownership, Northern Lights Hockey, for their guidance and support over the last four years."
