Dan Coates for Colorado
November 7, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - The Colorado Mammoth bolstered its roster for the foreseeable future on Thursday, signing defenseman Dan Coates to a five-year agreement, pending league approval.
Coates was a college teammate of Mammoth forward Adam Jones (who signed a contract on Monday). They were both selected in the first round of the 2011 NLL Entry Draft. Now they're both locked in with the team for the next half-decade.
"Despite having played in the NLL for just two seasons, Dan is a tremendous leader," said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. "It comes naturally for him."
So too does stellar defensive play! In his final year of collegiate action, Coates became the first Canisius defenseman to earn first-team all-conference honors in school history. As an NLL rookie, Coates' 94 loose balls were fifth-most among all non-face-off men in the league. Last season, the St. Catharines, Ontario native established himself as an elite defender.
Coates and the Mammoth open training camp next Friday, November 15. Opening Night is Saturday, December 28 on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center.
