D'Ambra becomes 15th player in MISL history to record 1,000 points in KiXX win

Philadelphia, PA, February 6, 2008 - The defending MISL Champion Philadelphia KiXX defeated the Detroit Ignition this past weekend, on Saturday, February 2, by a score of 15-13. The Ignition were in first place at the time, and with the win, the KiXX pulled in to sole possession of sixth place. The top six teams in the nine-team MISL make the playoffs. The game was highlighted by a stellar performance from player/coach Don D'Ambra, who scored four goals. On his fourth two-pointer, D'Ambra hit the 1,000 point mark, becoming just the 15th player in MISL history to reach that milestone. Tony Donatelli pitched in a goal and four assists, three to D'Ambra. The KiXX remain home and will face the Milwaukee Wave this Saturday, February 9 at 7:05pm. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a KiXX hat courtesy of NBC10.

The KiXX will host the first-place Milwaukee Wave for the first time this season, after two losses on the road. On December 7, the KiXX dropped a 14-8 decision in a Fox Soccer Channel match that saw every goal scored by a different player. On January 4, the KiXX fell 12-10 despite two goals from captain Pat Morris in another Fox Soccer Channel match. Philadelphia couldn't overcome two two-goal performances from Milwaukee stars Troy Dusosky and Greg Howes. Howes, the 2004-05 MISL MVP, leads the entire League in goals (31) and points (78). Nick Vorberg leads the MISL in wins in net with 11, minutes (1017), and saves (222). Keith Tozer has the most win in American indoor soccer coaching history with 587 victories.

KiXX 15, DET 13 (2/2) - The KiXX (9-11) defeated the first-place Detroit Ignition (12-6) by a score of 15-13 in front of 5,988 fans at the Wachovia Spectrum. Player/coach Don D'Ambra scored four goals for the second time this season. On his fourth goal of the night, D'Ambra recorded the 1,001 point of his 14-year career, becoming just the 15th player in MISL history to record 1,000 points in a career. The KiXX fought off a late comeback by the MISL's best road team to move into sole possession of sixth place. The top six teams in the nine-team MISL make the playoffs. Tony Donatelli recorded a goal and four assists for the KiXX, hooking up with D'Ambra three times. Detroit jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead when Droo Callahan buried a three-pointer, followed by 2006-07 MISL MVP Jamar Beasley's team-leading 17th goal of the season. Pat Morris extended his point streak to six games with his second three-point goal of the season, putting Philadelphia on the board, 5-3. Donatelli was credited with the assist. Mike Apple gave Detroit a four-point lead with his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Abraham Francois. Ryan Mack committed a tripping penalty at 7:45 of the second quarter, and the KiXX and D'Ambra capitalized on the power play. Donatelli was again credited with the assist on D'Ambra's team-leading 12th of the season. D'Ambra and Donatelli connected again less than two minutes later to tie the game at seven apiece. Donatelli got his own goal less than one minute later on a feed from Aaron Susi. The goal gave the KiXX their first lead of the game, 9-7 heading into halftime. D'Ambra and Donatelli connected yet again 3:24 into the third quarter to put the KiXX up four points. At 9:35 of the frame, Angel Rivillo scored his ninth goal of the season, and his fifth against Detroit this season alone. Susi was given the assist, putting the KiXX up 13-7. The assist was the 100th of Susi's 11-year career. D'Ambra scored his fourth goal of the night just 12 seconds into the fourth quarter, giving him 1,001 points during his 14-year career. After six straight goals from Philadelphia, Ryan Mack scored his 15th of the season to bring Detroit to within six points. Two minutes later Detroit player/assistant coach Matt Johnson scored his second of the season, assisted by Ze Roberto. Detroit's comeback continued when Callahan capitalized for his second goal of the night and the Ignition's third straight to bring the score to 15-13. The KiXX held off the Ignition and Callahan as sixth attacker for their ninth win of the season. Peter Pappas missed his fourth straight game in net for the KiXX, after injuring his neck on January 18. John Barry Nusum was in Bermuda playing in a World Cup qualifying game for the national team.
