Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, announced the Dallas Stars have re-assigned defenceman Nolan Baumgartner once again to the Moose.
Baumgartner, 31, was recalled by the Stars prior to the beginning of the Stanley Cup playoffs on April 8/08, but failed to appear in any games for Dallas. The Calgary, AB native played in 18 games with the Moose this regular season after joining them on Feb. 27/08. In that time, he collected six assists and 10 penalty minutes. While with the Moose, the team went 14-2-0-2. Prior to joining the Moose, Baumgartner appeared in 56 games this season with the AHL's Iowa Stars. In that time, Baumgartner scored five goals and 13 assists for 18 points and 47 penalty minutes.
Baumgartner's stint with the Moose is his second as he was team captain during the 2004-05 season and scored the first-ever goal at the MTS Centre back on Nov. 17/04. In 210 career games as a Moose, Baumgartner has scored 23 goals and 88 assists for 113 points and 244 penalty minutes. He was named the team's top defenceman in 2003 and 2005. Overall, he has played in 625 career games in the American Hockey League since 1996 where he's collected 63 goals and 225 assists for 288 points and 666 penalty minutes with Iowa, the Philadelphia Phantoms, Manitoba, Norfolk, and Portland. He has appeared in two AHL All-Star Classics in his career - 2005 with Manitoba and as a starter in 2007 while with Philadelphia.
Baumgartner has also played in 131 career NHL games with Dallas, the Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver, Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Washington. In that time, he's scored six goals and 39 assists for 45 points and 67 penalty minutes. His most productive season was in 2005-06 when he played in 70 games with the Canucks and scored five goals and 29 assists for 34 points and 30 penalty minutes. Baumgartner was originally drafted in the first round, 10th overall, by the Washington Capitals in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
