April 23, 2005 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Iowa Chops News Release
Dallas Stars head coach Dave Tippett and assistant coach Rick Wilson spent March 28 and 29 in Des Moines, sharing their knowledge of hockey with the members of Des Moines Youth Hockey. Over 180 members of the Des Moines Youth Hockey organization participated in the clinics, which focused on skill development and core hockey concepts.
"This was just the first of many youth hockey initiatives that the Iowa Stars plan on sponsoring here in central Iowa to help grow the youth hockey base," said John Pettit, President of the Iowa Stars. "Iowa has a strong hockey history, and the Iowa Stars plan on continuing to build upon that tradition."
"We are thrilled to have such a good relationship with the Stars," commented Doug Olsen, President of Des Moines Youth Hockey. "The entire organization has taken a strong interest in the youth hockey program, and with their leadership, we expect to see a surge in the number of kids looking to play hockey."
The Iowa Stars season will begin in mid-October and run through mid-April. The Stars are the AHL affiliate of the NHL Dallas Stars, and will play in the brand new, state-of-the art Wells Fargo Arena in downtown Des Moines.
