The appearance at the Grand Prairie Boys & Girls Club officially kicks off the Dallas Desperados Impact Player Program - the team's annual community outreach initiative that allows players and coaches the opportunity to be a positive influence in the lives of children in the Dallas area. As part of the Impact Player Program, select players and coaches visit a different Boys & Girls Club in the Dallas area each week during the Arena Football season, spending time with youth participating in the centers' after school programs. Debuted during the 2003 season on the initiative of Coach Will McClay, the program helps Desperados players gain confidence in their ability to interact with the community as professional athletes and role models. In 2006, the Impact Player Program expanded its borders to include weekly appearances at local children's hospitals, including Children's Medical Center Dallas and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. In 2007, the program hosted children from The Salvation Army's after school programs to afternoons of miniature golf, arcade games and go-karts at SpeedZone - a local amusement park.
