Albany, N.Y., February 19, 2004 â The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will entertain fans in the Capital Region for the first time when they appear at the Albany Conquest arenafootball2 home opener against the Manchester Wolves on Friday, April 16th at the Pepsi Arena.
"The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders are loved and adored by many and have become a staple in American society," said Albany Conquest General Manager Robert Zeig. "We are thrilled to give Capital Region residents the opportunity to see the marvel that is the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders," he added.
"It is exciting to have the opportunity to entertain and meet our fans all around America," said Laura Beke of Spring, Texas, who has been a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader for three years. "We have been in New York City to perform before and had wished we could have stayed and visited more of the state of New York. We get to travel everywhere and are looking forward to making our first trip to the Northeast this year," she added.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders' Show Group will deliver two high-energy performances. The Show Group consists of 12 performers and is the elite entertainment troupe of the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Festivities will begin at 5 p.m. with a block party on South Pearl Street in front of the Pepsi Arena. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will perform prior to kick-off at 7:30 p.m. and again at half time. Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will hold a 1-hour autograph session and a photo opportunity for fans on the Pepsi Arena concourse during the second half of the game.
In addition, the Albany Conquest Treasures dance team will make their 2004 season debut during the home opener and will have 20 talented dancers performing at each Conquest home game. The home opener will also mark the Albany debut of Conquest Head Coach Steve Matthews, as the team seeks their third straight Northeast Division Championship in arenafootball2.
Also to take place at the home opener on April 16, Liz Claiborne fragrances will give away a four-day all expenses paid vacation to Barbados. The promotion is titled "Show Us Your Curves" and 100 Conquest couples will participate in a dance off. This promotion has also been staged in cities such as Cleveland, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Philadelphia, Washington D.C, and Boston. Liz Claiborne will also be giving out product samples and t-shirts to Conquest fans.
The Dallas Cowboys have had cheerleaders entertaining fans at their games since the 1960's, but it was in 1972 that Tex Schramm conceived the idea that a glamorous, choreographed squad of accomplished dancers would grace the sidelines of Texas Stadium. This group became known as the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders. Their uniform itself is a carefully guarded trademark that is widely recognized around the world.
The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders make appearances all over the country at various events that include national telethons, trade shows, festivals, conventions, and sporting events. The Albany Conquest's home opener against the Manchester Wolves on April 16 at the Pepsi Arena will mark the first time the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders have appeared in Upstate New York.
