
Daleo, Woolpert To Coach All-Star Classic

Boise, ID (January 9, 2006) - The Continental Basketball Association announced today that Rockford Lightning Head Coach Chris Daleo and Yakama Sun Kings Head Coach Paul Woolpert will be the respective coaches in the 22nd Annual CBA All-Star Classic, scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Boise, Idaho. Daleo will lead the Eastern Conference squad while Woolpert will guide the Western Conference team.
The two coaches earned the right to coach in the All-Star Classic after leading their respective teams to first-place standings in the Eastern and Western Conferences. Daleo's Rockford Lightning have a league-best record of 16-7 (.696 pct.) and a quarter-point average of 4.3 to lead the Eastern Conference. The Lightning have won four of their last five and 11 of their last 13 games. Woolpert's Sun Kings have a record of 15-7 (.682 pct.) and a 4.1 quarter-point average to lead the Western Conference. Yakama has won three of its last five and 12 of its last 16 contests.
Both coaches have earned CBA Coach of the Month honors this season, Daleo in November and Woolpert in December.
The 22nd Annual CBA All-Star Classic, sponsored by Athletes.com, will be held at the Qwest Arena in downtown Boise, Idaho on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006. The event is being hosted by the CBA's Idaho Stampede. Doors open at 5 p.m. for the Hopkins Financial Slam Dunk competition and the Long Distance Shootout, which begin at 6 p.m. (MT). The All-Star game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:15 p.m. (MT).

Chris Daleo (Rockford Lightning), Eastern Conference
Chris Daleo is in his fourth season as head coach of the Rockford Lightning and currently holds a 99-68 career coaching record (.593 pct.) in the CBA.
This is Daleo's second-straight season earning the right to coach the Eastern Conference in the CBA All-Star Classic. Last season, Daleo led the Eastern Conference to a 114-110 victory over the Western Conference. He also coached in the 2003 All-Star game, losing 140-125 to the Western Conference.
Daleo led the Lightning to a 26-22 record and a second place finish in the conference last season. The Lightning beat the Great Lakes Storm three games to two in the first round of the CBA Playoffs and advanced to the CBA Championship Finals, where they lost three games to one to Sioux Falls.
During his rookie season as coach of the Lightning in 2002-03, Daleo was named was named the CBA Coach of the Year, earned American Conference Coach of the Month honors twice, and led Rockford to an American Conference-best record of 32-16 and the CBA Playoffs.
Daleo got his start in coaching basketball at Kishwaukee Junior College in Malta, Ill., where he was an assistant coach. He then served as an assistant coach with the Lightning for two years before being named the head coach and athletic director at Barat College in Lake Forest, Ill.
Daleo lives in Davis Junction with his wife, Karen, and their son Satchel, and daughter, Maris, who were named after baseball legends Satchel Paige and Roger Maris.
Paul Woolpert (Yakama Sun Kings), Western Conference
Woolpert in his fourth full season as head coach of the Sun Kings with a CBA career coaching record of 154-132 (.538 pct.). He has posted three seasons of 30-plus wins, two as head man of the Sun Kings and one as head coach at Sioux Falls. He led the Sun Kings to the 2000 CBA Championship.
This will mark Woolpert's second appearance as coach in the CBA All-Star game, with the other coming in 2000.
This year, Woolpert led Yakama to a franchise record tying eight-game winning streak from Dec. 2 through Dec. 20 and a franchise record four-game road winning streak from Dec. 6 through Dec. 13.
Woolpert began his career as a scout and video coordinator for the Seattle Supersonics where he spent eight seasons. He also worked as a scout for the Portland Trail Blazers. More recently, he had worked as an advance scout for the Atlanta Hawks. He has also coached the San Antonio Spurs summer league team and been a head coach in the Phillipines Basketball Association (PBA).
He is the son of Hall of Fame coach Phil Woolpert, who coached Bill Russell, K.C. Jones, and the University of San Francisco to an NCAA Championship in 1955 and again in 1956. Paul resides in Yakima and has one daughter, Naomi.
