D-Fenders Win First Game of Road Trip over Tulsa

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - The Los Angeles D-Fenders defeated the Tulsa 66ers 117-109 on Tuesday morning at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

In the first quarter, the D-Fenders (23-15) never trailed Tulsa (18-23) and held the 66ers to 39.1 percent from the floor. With Los Angeles leading by four points, both teams made an effort to score inside in the second frame, combing for 42 points in the paint. Despite never trailing in the first period, the D-Fenders allowed Tulsa to gain the lead four separate times in the second quarter, but managed to hold a two-point advantage at the break. Overall, Los Angeles shot 50.0 percent from the field, but only 21.1 percent from the three-point line in the first half.

In the third frame, the D-Fenders allowed the 66ers to post a 13-3 run early in the quarter to give Tulsa their biggest lead of the game at 10 points. However, Los Angeles rebounded with an 8-2 run to end the quarter, bringing the deficit to three points entering the final twelve minutes of play. The D-Fenders ended the game in dominant fashion, connecting on 15 of their 21 shot attempts in the fourth quarter, led by 14 points from Josiah Turner and 10 points from James Southerland, en route to their 23rd victory of the season.

Josiah Turner led all scorers with a career-high 31 points and seven assists to head the D-Fenders attack. Additionally, James Southerland (16 points, 13 rebounds) finished with a double-double and Manny Harris (22 points), Shawne Williams (22 points, seven rebounds) and C.J. Williams (14 points) all finished in double-digits for Los Angeles.

The 66ers were paced by Oklahoma City Thunder assignment player Reggie Williams (19 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists) and Mustafa Shakur (18 points). Also finishing in double-digits for Tulsa were Maurice Sutton (16 points, six rebounds), Isaiah Wilkerson (14 points), Xavier Alexander (12 points, eight rebounds) and Rodney Bartholomew (11 points, eight rebounds).

In total, the D-Fenders shot an identical 22 of 44 from the field in the first and second half for an even 50.0 percent shooting. However, Los Angeles tied a season-low for made three-point field goals (6) on 20.0 percent from that distance. This is the third win in a row for Los Angeles, who now sits a 0.5 game back of first place in the West Division.

The D-Fenders continue their five-game road trip on Friday, March 14th, against the Canton Charge (Cleveland Cavaliers affiliate) at 4:00pm, at Canton Memorial Civic Center, in Canton, Ohio.
