SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders were topped 82-74 by the Santa Cruz Warriors on Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Outscored 66-49 by Santa Cruz (13-7) through the first three quarters, the D-Fenders (6-12) went on a 13-3 run in the waning minutes of the final period but were unable to complete the comeback.
Elijah Millsap posted a team-high 18 points to go along with seven rebounds, Courtney Fortson scored 13 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Gary Flowers tallied 12 points and three steals for the D-Fenders, who fall to 0-3 against the Warriors this season. Additionally, Jarrid Famous pitched in a game-high 12 rebounds (7 offensive rebounds) to go along with four points while Jamario Moon finished with eight points and nine rebounds in the D-Fenders fourth straight loss.
Santa Cruz was paced by Cameron Jones (22 points), who eclipsed his season-high in points scored, and Lance Goulbourne (15 points, 7 rebounds). Darington Hobson (8 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists) ended the game as the next highest scorer for the Warriors, which saw all 10 players score more than four points.
Los Angeles will have yet another quick turnaround as they play the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (NBA Affiliates: Charlotte, Detroit, Indiana, Milwaukee) in the second game of a back-to-back, marking the fourth time this season they have played games on two consecutive days. Tip-off is set for 6:30 pm at Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
