
D-Fenders Fall in Hard Fought Battle with Jam

EL SEGUNDO, CA - The Los Angeles D-Fenders (27-17) were defeated by the Bakersfield Jam (20-24) 124-111 on Monday night at Toyota Sports Center.
In the first quarter, the D-Fenders shot the ball exceptionally well, going 15 of 20 from the field in the frame. However, Los Angeles allowed Bakersfield to collect 11 second chance points, which kept the D-Fenders lead at only three points after the first twelve minutes. The second period proved to be another tightly contested battle, but a late 10-2 run helped lift Los Angeles to a seven-point halftime advantage. In total, the D-Fenders shot 62.8 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from the three-point line in the first half.
Los Angeles was unable to sustain their efficient shooting in the third quarter, converting only six field goals in the frame, on 33.3 percent from the floor. Yet, the D-Fenders were able to preserve a four-point edge by making 14 of their 15 free-throw attempts. Despite a strong start to the game, Los Angeles finished poorly in the fourth quarter, going four of 25 from the field. The final period point total of 13 points is the lowest the team has scored in a quarter this season, resulting in their 17th loss of the year.
Shawne Williams led all scorers with 32 points (7/11 3FG), nine rebounds and six assists. Also finishing in double-digits for the D-Fenders were, Brandon Costner (19 points, six rebounds), C.J. Williams (18 points, six rebounds), Josh Magette (13 points, seven assists) and Andre Ingram (12 points, eight rebounds).
Dennis Horner (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Ike Diogu (17 points, 12 rebounds) posted double-doubles to pace the Jam. In addition, Jerel McNeal (23 points, eight assists), Derrick Byars (20 points, six rebounds) and Terrel Harris (11 points) finished in double-digits for Bakersfield.
Overall, the D-Fenders held the Jam to 44.9 percent from the floor, and racked up a season-high 12 blocked shots. However, Los Angeles permitted Bakersfield to total 72 points in the paint and 27 second chance points. Furthermore, the D-Fenders scored just 41 points in the second half after posting 70 points through the first two quarters.
The D-Fenders will next travel to Bakersfield to take on the Bakersfield Jam at 7:00pm, on Friday, March 28th, at Dignity Health Events Center, in Bakersfield, California.
