Washington, D.C. (November 22, 2010) - D.C. United announced today it will once again support Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's Annual Capitol Hill Holiday Party for D.C.'s disadvantaged youth. This is the fifth year in a row in which the club and its charitable arm, United for D.C., have helped Congresswoman Norton stage this D.C. Holiday tradition. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21 and will be held at the Cannon House Office Building. D.C. United will be distributing toys to the children and providing volunteers to assist during the event.
"It is wonderful that our fans are providing additional support for the Congresswoman's Annual Holiday Party," said Director of Community Relations, Aprile Pritchet. "This event is very important to the club and we are excited to be involved this year."
United is teaming up with the Screaming Eagles to organize a toy drive and happy hour fundraiser to collect toys that will be distributed to the children at the holiday party. The happy hour will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4 at Duffy's Irish Pub at 2106 Vermont Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. across from the 9:30 Club. Cost of entry will be $10 at the door or a toy donation.
This year marks the 20th consecutive year in which The Eleanor Holmes Norton Annual Christmas Party has provided a variety of toys to disadvantaged kids in the D.C. area. More than 200 children are expected to benefit from this year's event.
