Washington, D.C. (March 30, 2009) - D.C. United players will be making appearances events in the community this week. As part of the 2009 Nothing But Nets campaign, Ben Olsen, Anthony Peters and Marc Burch will guest bartend at Garrett's of Georgetown on Wednesday in an effort to raise money for the campaign. The players will be interacting with fans as they watch the U.S. Men's National Team take on Trinidad and Tobago in a World Cup qualifier. Full appearance information is detailed below.
Created by the United Nations Foundation, Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. In support of the campaign, a month-long Major League Soccer initiative that culminates on World Malaria Day on April 25 has been started. D.C. United has entered a four-team competition with the Chicago Fire, Seattle Sounders FC and the Los Angeles Galaxy to see who can raise the most money in support of Nothing But Nets. The market that raises the most money will randomly select one donating fan to win a trip for two to the 2009 MLS All-Star Game in Salt Lake City in July.
