
D.C. United hosts Tenth Annual Armed Forces and Veterans Appreciation Day

Washington, D.C. (May 28, 2009) - D.C. United announced today details of the team's Tenth Annual Armed Forces and Veterans Appreciation Day. The event, scheduled for Thursday, June 4, is held to honor all current and former military personnel and their families. The game against the New York Red Bulls is scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
"It is a pleasure for us to be hosting Armed Forces & Veterans Appreciation Day for the tenth year in a row," said United Executive Vice President, Stephen Zack. "In addition to honoring the great work and sacrifices of the men and women of the US armed forces, our fans will have the opportunity to see some spectacular performances by some of our military elite."
More than 750 free tickets have been provided for active-duty members of the Armed Forces, while additional discounted tickets for Military ID holders and families are available through D.C. United offices at 202-587-5000 or at www.dcunited.com A festival to showcase aspects of the Armed Forces community will be featured at Soccer Celebration, held in Lot 8 of RFK Stadium, in conjunction with a Tailgate Party beginning at 5:00 p.m. It will include booths for military recruiters, the USO Mobile Canteen, and the D.C. Army National Guard's show car and show bike. Pre-game festivities will include a performance by the USMC Drum & Bugle Corps and a fixed-wing flyover. A swearing-in ceremony for new enlistees will take place at halftime along with a performance by the world famous United States Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon.
