Three Fire Players Called up For World Cup Qualifier

CHICAGO, IL (May 28, 2009) - Chicago Fire players Cuauhtémoc Blanco (Mexico), Gonzalo Segares (Costa Rica), and Bakary Soumare (Mali) have been called to serve with their respective national teams for World Cup Qualifying matches. Segares and Soumare will report to their national teams following the Fire's match against FC Dallas this Sunday, May 31 while Blanco will report to the Mexico City on Friday, May 29. All three players will be available to face Chivas USA tonight, Thursday, May 28 at The Home Depot Center (9:30 p.m. CT, ESPN2/Deportes).

Blanco and Mexico will play two World Cup Qualifiers, on Saturday, June 6 against El Salvador in San Salvador (9:00 p.m. CT, Telemundo) and on Wednesday, June 10 against Trinidad & Tobago at home in Estadio Azteca (9:30 p.m. CT, Telemundo). Segares and Costa Rica will face the U.S. Men's National Team at Saprissa Stadium in San Jose on Wednesday, June 3 (9 p.m. CT, ESPN) before taking on Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, June 6 on the road in Bacolet, Tobago (5 p.m. CT). Soumare and Mali will face Ghana on Sunday, June 7 (2 p.m. CT) and Benin on Sunday, June 21 (2 p.m. CT) for World Cup Qualifiers at home in the Stade du 26 mars in Bamako, Mali.

Blanco and Segares will return for the Fire's match against D.C. United at RFK Stadium on June 13 (6:30 p.m. CT, My50 Chicago). Soumare will return to the Fire following his match on June 21.

Following tonight's game against Chivas USA, the Fire will return home for a match against Brimstone Cup rival FC Dallas this Sunday, May 31 (2 p.m. CT, My50/TeleFutura) at TOYOTA PARK.
