D.C. United News Release
Washington, D.C. (February 3, 2014)-D.C. United Academy players Jose Carranza (Manassas, Va.; Northern Virginia Soccer Club) and Chandler Vaughn (Woodbridge, Va.; Prince William Soccer Inc.) have both been called in to U.S. Soccer National Team camps. Carranza has been invited to the U-15 Boys National Team Camp to be held Jan. 31-Feb. 9 in Dubai, United Arab Emirate. Vaughn has been invited to the U-14 Boys National Team training camp Feb. 1-9 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Carranza was called up to the U-15 BNT twice in 2013 and has become a mainstay with U.S. Soccer. He most recently attended the U.S. Soccer Training Camp in Carson, Calif., in late October and played with the U-15 BNT at the Developmental Academy Winter Showcase in Sarasota, Fla. Carranza joined the U.S. Soccer Residency Program for the 2014 spring semester at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. While in Dubai, the U-15 BNT will play friendlies against Al Jazira FC on Feb. 3, Oman on Feb. 4 and the United Arab Emirates on Feb. 6 and 8.
D.C. United Director of Youth Development Sonny Silooy said, "It's great for Jose's development to continue to be called into the U-15 National Team. Playing international games will give Jose new and different experiences. We want to wish him and the rest of the U.S. National team the best of luck on their trip to Dubai."
Vaughn, who played with Prince William Soccer Inc. before playing for D.C. United, is one of 36 players to be called into the U-14 BNT camp. While there, he will train twice a day and play friendlies against local clubs on Feb. 5, as well as scrimmage a U.S. Residency Program team on Feb. 8.
"I am so thankful that I was invited back for the U-14 Boy's National Team training," said Vaughn. "This is a great opportunity and I plan to give 110% when I am there."
D.C. United U-14 Head Coach Jonathan Frias said, "We're really pleased to see Chandler being called up to the National Team again. It's good that he made an impression last camp and is being brought into train at another one."
