ANCHORAGE, ALASKA - Eric Knodel scored late in the third period to tie the score, then Nick Huard popped in the only goal of the shootout, as the Cincinnati Cyclones edged the Alaska Aces 4-3 Saturday night at the Sullivan Arena.

By going to overtime, the Aces picked up a valuable point in the Mountain Division standings, moving to five ahead of fifth-place Utah and six ahead of Missouri. The Grizzlies lost to Colorado Saturday night, while the Mavericks were dumped by Quad City.

Alaska took a 1-0 lead at 6:08 of the first period on a goal by Brad Navin, a driving shot from the left circle assisted by Garet Hunt and Steve Tarasuk. The goal was Navin's 8th of the season.

Shots were 9-8 Aces after one.

The Aces made it 2-0 at 11:43 of the second period when Nolan Descoteaux scored on the power play with a blast from just inside the blue line, his 10th goa lof the season. Tim Coffman and Tim Wallace got helpers.

Shots after two favored Alaska 25-14.

In the third period, Alaska took a 3-1 lead on Peter Sivak's 33rd goal of the season, a snipe top shelf stick-side on Cyclones goalie Mark Visentin. Coffman and Pavel Laplante assisted.

Cincinnati would get to within one on a goal from Martin Lefebvre, then tied the game on Knodel's goal with just 18 seconds to go in the third.

The overtime was dominated by Cincinnati 5 shots to one (the Cyclones enjoyed a power play in the extra stanza) but the Aces held steady and went to a shootout.
