Denver Cutthroats News Release

DENVER - For the third consecutive night the Denver Cutthroats and Rapid City Rush needed a shootout to decide a winner as Denver's first three shooters all found the back of the net to complete a 2-1 win on Sunday night at Denver Coliseum.

The Cutthroats (8-7-1) take three of the four games they played this week against their rival with the win, and seven of eight possible points to move into sole possession of sixth place in the Central Hockey League. Jamie MacQueen was credited with the game-winner after scoring in round one of the shootout.

Luke Fulghum scored in round two, and Gabe Gauthier in round three for Denver while Kieran Millan turned aside all three Rapid City shooters he faced to earn his fifth win of the season. Denver topped the Rush (8-6-3) on Saturday night in a shootout win as well.

Of the six meetings this season between the Cutthroats and Rush, four have now been decided by a goal - three of those after regulation.

Rapid City carried a 1-0 lead into the third period, but Gabriel Beaupre struck for the second straight game with a wrist shot from the left point at 5:55 to knot the game with a power play goal. Brad Smyth and Brett Lutes tallied the assists.

Millan is now 4-0-1 in his last five starts for the Cutthroats, stopping 149 of 154 shots over that stretch for a .967 SV%. Danny Battochio took the loss for Rapid City a 34-save performance.

Scott Brannon scored Rapid City's only goal at 4:22 of the second to open up the game's scoring.

Denver finished 1-for-6 on the power play, while Rapid City went 0-for-4. The Fish outshot the Rush 36-34 on the night.

The Cutthroats will host the Bloomington Blaze on Wednesday at 7:05 PM MST.

Three Stars:

1. Jamie MacQueen (DEN)

2. Kieran Millan (DEN)
