
Cutters Make Flurry of Moves

New Haven County Cutters News Release
West Haven- The New Haven County Cutters had a busy Friday as the team re-signed power hitter Derrick Gibson and made separate trades to acquire OF/P Horace Lawrence and reacquired OF Darren Ciraco.
Gibson a former Major Leaguer with the Colorado Rockies played in 77 games last season with the Cutters, where he batted .324 and hit 12 home runs. Derrick was originally selected in the 13th round in 1993 by the Rockies and spent parts of two seasons in the Majors. This will be Derrick's 14th season in professional baseball, where he has compiled a .280 career batting average and has hit 201 home runs.
Outfielder/Pitcher Horace Lawrence was acquired from the New Jersey Jackals where he played in 26 games last season. The lefty made 9 appearances out of the pen pitching 15.1 innings. Lawrence has played in the New York Yankees and the New York Mets organizations. The South Dakota graduate has a .329 career batting average.
Outfielder Darren Ciraco returns to the Cutters after being traded to the New Jersey Jackals in the middle of June for OF Michael Piercy and LHP Brad Whitworth. Ciraco was originally selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 31st round of the 2000 draft. Last season Ciraco batted .284 with 6 home runs and 44 RBI's.
"We are really excited to get Darren back, we feel as if Darren is ready for a real big year," said Bob Wirz Director of Player Procurement of the New Haven County Cutters. The Cutters also traded 1B Bill Peavey to New Jersey to complete the trades today.
The Cutters kick off the 2006 season on May 25th as they travel to take on the Brockton Rox. The Cutters will play their home opener on May 29th against 2005 Champion, Worcester Tornados.
