Cutters Announce Ambitious Schedule of Promotions

April 9, 2005 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Haven County Cutters News Release

Diamonds. Hockey. Inexpensive beer. Survivor Night. Celebrities. Professional wrestling. Kids eat free.

Sound something like a flea market, sports banquet and a food festival wrapped into one?

No. It is the promotional schedule—so far—for the New Haven County Cutters baseball season at Yale Field. The Cutters revealed the schedule Saturday, and it is loaded with specials on 37 of the 46 dates on the Can-Am League team's home schedule.

"If you can't find something you like on this special events calendar tell us and we will add something to your liking," said General Manager Marie Heikkinen Webb. "I applaud the staff for its creativity."

For those who like a pattern to what they plan, be alerted that every Thursday the Cutters will offer some drafts of their beer selection for $1 (its called Thirsty Thursday) and every Saturday will feature nine innings of trying to give away cash (Cash Chaos).

The 14 and under crowd will get a free hot dog and soda at all eight Sunday afternoon games thanks to Hummel Bros. (Kids Eat Free days). Sundays are also billed as Family Fun Days presented by WEBE 108. Along with the free food for the youngsters, there will be special activities in the Cutters FunZone.

The bonus offerings start on opening night, May 30 (6:05), with the first of four fireworks shows plus schedule magnets from New Alliance Bank and the initial regular season opportunity to see Mike Church's Cutters as they go up against the Bangor Lumberjacks. The seven-game homestand includes an 11:05 a.m. School Day game June 1, a Tribute to the ‘70s the next night (on the initial Thirsty Thursday) when the Cutters open a four-game set against Quebec and Hockey Night on Saturday, June 3.

"Hockey Night could be one of the highlight events of the entire year, we believe," said Director of Promotions and Special Events Stephen Colvin. "Hockey fans have felt short-changed this year, and we hope appearances by some hockey greats will in some way make them feel better."

Former New York Rangers greats Brian Leetch, who is part of the Cutters' ownership group, will be on hand along with his longtime teammate, Mike Richter, former Hartford Whalers Ulf Samuelsson and Kevin Dineen and Kevin Stevens of Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers fame. Hockey-themed activities will prevail throughout the night, including miniature zamboni races. Any fan wearing a hockey jersey will receive a discounted ticket at the gate.

Other special events include Italian Night June 13, fireworks and a girl scout sleepover June 17, an appearance by famed promoter Mike Veeck June 26, 50-cent hot dogs July 6, midget wrestling July 7, a visit by wrestler George (The Animal) Steele the next night, Survivor Night July 16, Latino Night July 29 and Diamond in the Haystack search July 30.

August starts with Camp Day (11:05 start) August 3 followed by Rotary Fireworks Night and boy scout sleepover August 12, Irish Night August 17 and Yankees or Red Sox Rivalry Night August 25.

Oh yes, the Cutters are going to attempt to get couch potatoes off their sofa long enough on July 9 to be part of Couch Potato Night when all men 18 and over will be put to the test with a brand new TV being the top prize. Snacks will be extra.

Full season tickets, mini plans and group tickets are available at Yale Field or by calling 203 777-5636. Information on ticket packages as well as the promotions also can be found at www.CuttersBaseball.com.
