Memphis Xplorers News Release

SOUTHAVEN --- The af2 league office announced today that Memphis Xplorers Defensive Specialist Scott Cunningham has been named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week. The second year defensive back had two interceptions and a team-high seven tackles in the Xplorers' 75-15 win over the Amarillo Dusters Saturday night.

As a team, the Xplorers totaled three interceptions, two sacks, two fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown) and a safety. It was the fifth time the Xplorers have held an opponent in the teens in scoring in team history. More importantly, the victory clinched a playoff berth and will allow the Xplorers a chance to defend their ArenaCup title.

For the season, Cunningham is second on the team with 79 total tackles and has a team co-leading four interceptions. His 79 tackles also rank him 7th in the league.

The former Tennessee State Tiger is part of a defense that is giving up a league-low 40.2 points a game.

The Xplorers close out the regular season this Saturday at Birmingham at 7pm. A win will clinch at least one home playoff game. The team can also wrap up a home game with a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton loss at Quad City on Saturday.
