The Jacksonville Barracudas showed the advantage of home ice Thursday night, defeating the Asheville Aces 11-3 in Jacksonville.

Jacksonville took the lead early in the game with a powerplay goal scored by Brent Rumble (8:35) followed by one by Matt Mathias (16:42). The Barracudas continued their domination of the Aces, scoring seven more times in the second with two goals from Brent Rumble (earning him a hat trick during the period), Aaron Wilson, two from BJ Stephens, Greg Lecolst, and Glen Crawford. The Aces sole goal in the period came from Ryan Crowther on an assist from Chad Brandimore and Jan Kentos (14:42)

Asheville made their presence known in the third period with goals from Chester Gallant (assist by Chris Kovalcik) and Jan Kentos (assist by Chad Brandimore and Chester Gallant). Jacksonville's Brent Rumble and Brad Federenko also scored in the third.

The main action in the third period was not in front of the net. It was the long awaited showdown between Asheville's Chris Kovalcik and Jacksonville's Chris Ferguson. The fight was a draw ending in five minute major penalties being awarded to both players.

Asheville goalie Mark Scally faced forty-six shots over the course of the game allowing nine through. Scally was replaced by Jorge Alves in the third. Alves allowed two goals scored in under ten minutes resulting from five shots on goal.
