Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (JANUARY 28, 2015) - ESPN's Keith Law released his ranking of the MLB farm systems, and picked the Chicago Cubs, the parent club of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, as having the best farm system in the game .
Law's rankings are based on "players who are currently in the systems and have not exhausted their rookie year of eligibility."
Coming into 2014, Law ranked the Cubs fourth on the list, but placed them first in his mid-season rankings last July after a bevy of moves added to the system's talent pool.
Law notes that the Cubs possess "the strongest collection of top-shelf hitting prospects I can remember since I started working in baseball," and that "there are young starting pitching prospects here to like, led by 20-year-old Duane Underwood."
Last season, the Houston Astros ranked first on Law's list; they checked in at number three this season.
The Texas Rangers (the Pelicans' parent club from 2011-2014), are listed in the 11th spot, while the Atlanta Braves (1999-2010) rank sixth.
The Cubs have yet to announce the roster of players who play in Myrtle Beach to open the 2015 season, an announcement that will not come until after Spring Training concludes.
The Pelicans return to TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark on April 9 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, as they begin their defense of their Southern Division Championship Title. The 2015 season marks the 17th season for the franchise and first as the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs.
