Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - The Jupiter bullpen allowed five runs and it ended up costing the Hammerheads on Saturday night as they lost to the Cubs 7-4 in a rain shortened contest.
Jupiter had a 3-2 lead after four innings when starter Jake Esch was pulled from the game. The Cubs immediately took advantage of Charlie Lowell, the first man out of the Sharks' bullpen.
With two outs and Bijan Rademacher on first thanks to a single, Lowell walked the bases loaded. With Jordan Hankins batting, Lowell would issue another free pass as the Cubs tied the game at three.
Zeke DeVoss would then hit a line drive that was just to the right of the lunge of Viosergy Rosa at first as a pair of runs came home to give Daytona a 5-3 lead.
In the sixth inning the Cubs would extend the lead against Brad Mincey. Gioskar Amaya led off with a double to left and scored when Dan Vogelbach singled to right. Daytona would later score another run on a ground out to make it 7-3.
Jupiter would get a run back in the bottom of the sixth when Noah Perio singled, stole second, stole third and scored on an infield single by Ryan Goetz.
With one out in the top of the eighth inning the heavens opened up and the tarp was put on the field. After a delay of 53 minutes the game was called.
Jupiter did the majority of its scoring in the first inning. After Daytona had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a RBI single by Rock Shoulders, the Sharks would put up a three spot in the bottom half of the frame.
The Hammerheads loaded the bases with one out thanks to singles by Matt Juengel and Colin Moran and a walk to Rosa. Blake Barber would then plate a pair when he singled up the box to make it 2-1.
Justin Bohn would then single off the glove of the center fielder as Rosa scored from second.
Daytona would get a run back in the top of the second when Willson Contreras hit a leadoff double and later scored on a single by Marco Hernandez.
The score would remain 3-2 until The Cubs jumped on Lowell in the fifth.
Jupiter and Daytona will play the third game of the series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
