Crystal Palace Baltimore Face Montreal Impact As Soccerplex

Crystal Palace Baltimore News Release

Crystal Palace Baltimore (5-9-4) host the Montreal Impact (6-7-5) Saturday, July 31 at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown at 7p.m. Palace Baltimore won the last meeting 2-1 on July 18 after an inspired come-from-behind win at the Saputo Stadium in Montreal. Gary Brooks' venomous blast leveled the score after Leonardo Di Lorenzo's third minute opener, and a deflected Andrew Marshall effort gave Palace their fifth win of the season.

Baltimore have struggled with consistency for much of the season. Most recently, Palace failed to build on stellar back-to-back performances against league heavyweights Rochester (July 14) and Montreal (July 18) and dropped all three points in their last game to struggling St. Louis in a disappointing home performance.

Montreal have also been party to an up-and-down season. With the exception of Baltimore and Austin, Montreal has taken at least one point from all of their opponents in league fixtures this season. Potentially even more of a spur for the Impact in approaching Saturday's game is that Baltimore took all three points in Montreal - something that only two other teams have done in 2010.

One of the hurdles facing Montreal as they try to level accounts this weekend, is that they have struggled outside of Saputo Stadium. They have amassed only eight points on the road, losing four and winning twice along the way. Conversely, Baltimore's fortunes are the exact opposite. Palace have been better when they have been away from home. Four of Baltimore's five wins have been on the road with their only home win coming against the Portland Timbers in May. With only four points separating Palace from Montreal and the last playoff spot, Palace will be well aware that a win puts them in striking distance of a post-season appearance.

Palace Baltimore will be without the services of defender Paul Robson for this weekend's fixture. The English central defender was issued a straight red card after a meaty challenge on St. Louis goal scorer, Mike Ambersley. It was Baltimore's third straight red card in their last four games.

Palace Baltimore's next game is against Miami FC on Tuesday, August 3rd, at the Maryland SoccerPlex with kick off scheduled for 7p.m. Tickets to both games are available online at www.palacebaltimore.com and at the box office before kick off. Palace Baltimore fans unable to attend the games in person, can watch them live on the club's website at live.palacebaltimore.com
