
Crush's Hawkins named AFL's Defensive Player of the Week

Denver, Colo. - Colorado Crush defensive specialist Ahmad Hawkins has been named the Arena Football League's ADT Defensive Player of the Week for the Quarterfinal Round of the 2004 season, it was announced today.
Hawkins (5-10, 188, Virginia), in his second season in the AFL and with Colorado, led the fifth-seeded Crush (12-5) to a 47-44 upset over the fourth-seeded New Orleans VooDoo (11-6) on Sunday. Hawkins recorded 9.0 total tackles, two pass breakups and a 14-yard interception return for a touchdown in the second quarter that gave the Crush early momentum.
With the victory, the Crush earned their first franchise playoff victory, and advanced to the AFL Semifinals where they will face top-seeded Arizona in Phoenix on Sunday, June 13 at 1 p.m. MT.
This marks the first time that Hawkins has earned an AFL weekly honor, and the second Defensive Player of the Week award for the Crush this season. Crush DS Rashad Floyd garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 8 and was named Defensive Player of the Month for March. WR/LB Kevin McKenzie was named AFL Ironman of the Week following Weeks 2 and 10, and WR/DB Willis Marshall captured Ironman honors following Week 17.
The Crush play at top-seeded Arizona on Sunday, June 13 at 1:00 p.m. MT in the AFL Semifinals. The game will be televised by NBC and broadcast by AM 760 The Zone. The Crush won the first only regular season meeting with Arizona, 54-46, in Denver on March 27.
