
Chicago's John Moyer named Lineman of the Year

NEW YORK â Chicago Rush offensive/defensive lineman JOHN MOYER (6-3, 265, Eastern Illinois) was selected the 2004 Lineman of the Year as voted by the AFL head coaches, players, fans and Arena Football League Writers Association (AFLWA). Moyer earned All-Ironman and First-Team All-Arena honors last week.
Moyer and the No. 3-seeded Rush (12-5) travel to San Jose for an AFL semifinal match-up with the No. 2-seeded SaberCats (12-5) this Saturday, June 12 at 3 p.m. ET on NBC.
Moyer, in his sixth AFL season, led the league in sacks with 10.0 sacks and added three defensive fumble recoveries, 11.5 tackles for a loss, four blocked kicks, an interception and 31.0 total tackles. The former Panther is the Rush's all-time leader in sacks (23.0) and ranks No. 9 all-time in AFL history with 28.0.
Other players receiving votes included: Arizona's WENDALL GAINES and BRYAN HENDERSON, Austin's TOM BRIGGS, and Orlando's JERMAINE SMITH.
The Rookie of the Year will be announced tomorrow, Wednesday, June 9 on ESPNews, while Coach of the Year honors will be announced Thursday, June 10. The following is the complete list of all-time Lineman of the Year award winners:
